TESTIMONIALS
TYPES OF SHIPMENT
FTL SHIPMENTS
Full truckload involves moving bulk or pallet loads that are large enough to justify the use of an entire semi-trailer, typically more than 15,000 pounds.
BENEFITS:
- Economy-to-Scale: Cost/unit is drastically reduced from that of a Partial or LTL shipment
-
Dedicated Truck: Your product is the only product on this trailer; meaning no translating/cross-docking; your product is handled twice - loading and unloading
-
Timing: With this being a dedicated load, there is only 1 origin and only 1 destination; meaning your product will arrive 1-2 days earlier than it would on a Partial/LTL shipment.
DRAWBACKS:
- Price: A dedicated truck does come at a higher overall price

LTL SHIPMENTS
Less Than Truckload: Also referred to as LTL, less than truckload is designed for shipments larger than parcel but not large enough to require the space of a full truckload trailer. LTL is typically used for shipments under 15,000Lbs.

BENEFITS:
-
The most cost effective way to ship a small amount of product (1-6 skids)
DRAWBACKS:

-
Consolidated Loads: Your product gets shipped with other products from other companies - therefore multiple delivery locations
-
Timing: Multiple deliveries with LTL service means your product will likely experience 1-3 additional days for delivery
-
Cross Docking: In order to consolidate the loads, its common that the trailer that picked up your product will not be the trailer that delivers your product. Meaning your product has been loaded and unloaded (handled) multiple times by multiple people; increasing the risk of damage
-
Cost/Unit: Shipping follows the common "Economy-to-Scale'' business model; meaning the cost/unit increases on smaller LTL shipments. A good practice is to find out the exact tipping point where it makes more sense to ship Partial VS LTL.
PARTIAL SHIPMENTS
Partial truckload gives you the option to split the cost of a truck with other shippers, often resulting in cost savings. Partial truckload is a good option if your shipment is over 10,000 pounds or 6 pallets.

BENEFITS:
-
Save Money: Why pay for a Full Truckload when you don't need it
-
Economy-to-Scale: Cost/unit is drastically reduced from that of an LTL shipment
DRAWBACKS:
-
Consolidated Loads: Your product gets shipped with other products from other companies - therefore multiple delivery locations
-
Timing: Multiple deliveries with Partial service means your product will likely experience 1-2 additional days for delivery
-
Cross Docking: Not as likely as an LTL shipment, however Partial Shipments may also experience Cross Docking. Therefore there is the added element of multiple people handling your product; increasing the risk of damage.
EXPEDITED FREIGHT
Expedited freight refers to time-critical shipments in which freight has to be delivered quickly. Expedited freight is most often transported via truck using a team service or by air.

BENEFITS:
-
Speed: The fastest quickest way to get your product across the country - reducing transit times by 1-2 days Limited ELD Restrictions: With two drivers "TEAM" carriers are able to bypass the ELD (Electronic Log device) restrictions imposed on drivers; meaning the freight can move all day and all night.
DRAWBACK:
-
Cost: With two drivers running non stop, you can expect to see an increase in your overall cost.
RAIL INTERMODAL
Rail shipment is the best choice for shipping freight across Canada, or even further, that isn’t time sensitive. Intermodal service means it can be configured to meet specific transportation requirements. LTL and full truckload shipping can also be combined to rail service to any and all your freight needs.
OVER THE ROAD
The most common method of transporting goods across the road is Road Freight. It’s an effective and cost-efficient way to deliver goods from distribution to clients across all regions. Road freight is also ideal for transporting goods in short distances or in remote areas that other shipment types can't reach.

It's also used extensively in tandem with other shipment methods such as air, rail, or sea, as Road Transport is able to get the shipment from it's pick-up point to the next drop-off to be transferred.

To use road freight without hassle, clients must partner with a reliable freight shipping and transport company in Toronto.

ASSET V.S. BROKER
DRY VAN
DRY VAN: Dry vans are the most common type of freight trailers used by commercial trucking companies. Dry vans are typically 48 or 53 feet in length and typically handle no more than 45,000 pounds. Dry van shipping is a common method for transporting dry or weather-sensitive goods. Dry vans tend to be the most cost effective solution for over the road shipments.
Simply put; ASSET own the Truck, Trailer and employ the Driver but are limited in a number of ways:
-
They're restricted by the amount of equipment they own
-
The type of equipment they own
-
The dedicated laneways they run
-
The Authorities they run under (i.e. what Country, State and Province they're permitted to operate in)
-
The Licences their drivers carry (ex. Hazardous material restrictions, load capacity, etc)
-
Driver availability (ELD - Electronic Log Device)
A BROKER acts more like a limitedless freight partner. Although they don't own the assets, they aren't limited by any of the restrictions imposed on The Carriers. This allows them to create unique relationships or partnerships with an extensive pool of asset carriers throughout North America. If you're looking to grow, a Freight Broker is the place to go.
